The Adventures of Tarnus and Malkyve – Chapter 1

The Adventures of Tarnus and Malkyve – Chapter 1

Sometimes I like to think about the situations we create in gaming. For example, the starting area of a game is always interesting. There is usually no real back story to go on and characters don’t have a life prior to popping into existence at the starting area. I always wondered why a character (if it weren’t for human control) would want to randomly start killing animals and going on these quests. Isn’t it possible that these characters might not care very much, are politically neutral or just too lazy to get involved? Maybe they want to work a 9 to 5 job and spend time with their kids when they get home. What about family life? Why is it that there are never families in online games? The world is always full of adventurers with no ties to other characters other than mutually beneficial arrangements (such as guild, clan or vassal systems) which result in the gaining of gold, resources or experience. Why does it have to be like this? I think it’s time for another revolution in the way games are written. Why not start focusing more on the writing and lore of these games rather than focusing ever more attention on graphics, expansions, etc. Make the game more immersive and I’ve sure that you’ll still get your monthly fee. Who knows, maybe you can lure me back.
