About

HandRooster is a webcomic which was originally written and illustrated by husband and wife team, Mike and Steph Adams. We started making comics in March 2007 and tried to update three times a week. HandRooster was called an xkcd clone, a Penny Arcade copycat, and just plain not funny. Then again, people still came to the site everyday. All we were trying to do is inject a moment of mirth into the daily dose of dullery, and we didn’t take ourselves (or anyone else) very seriously. How could we copy great art like Penny Arcade? How could we copy the sheer wit and geekiness of xckd? We didn’t try to, and any similarity is simply coincidental. Honestly, we don’t even read those comics. If you want to know what we do read, just ask us. Steph eventually left the illustration role and Mike was stuck doing it on his own without a shred of talent or a chance in hell of coming up with anything decent, but he tried nonetheless. Steph briefly returned to illustration, but ended up being to obusy with other commitments to concentrate on the site, so comic stopped altogether. In December of 2009, Mike struck a deal with a long time friend and brought him on board as the new illustrator and contributor to the writing process. New comics are currently in development and will be appearing on the site soon.

If you don’t want to read the comic, we’re not going to hunt you down and make you. We hope you enjoy the comic and would love to hear from you. You can contact Mike (writer) at Mike@handrooster.com and you can contact Steph (former artist) over at her new site, Owl on the Sill.
